“No digging, no cabling, no headaches.”

The Challenge

A major global port moving more than two million TEUs a year needed its network to scale with rapid expansion. The challenge was geography. Operations were spread across multiple zones separated by residential neighbourhoods, parks, and areas where laying fibre was either impossible or prohibitively expensive. They needed a way to extend their enterprise network and connect Industrial IoT systems across kilometres of waterfront without trenching or pulling cable.

What We Did

Genwave was brought in to link nine remote sites back to the main network entirely over the air. We deployed Cisco Ultra-Reliable Wireless Backhaul as the backbone, creating a fibre-like wireless link spanning 2.5 kilometres. Throughput reaches up to 500 Mb/s, latency stays under 5 ms, and the system operates with zero packet loss. We also designed the network with headroom to support future terminal expansion and new digital systems as the port continues to grow.

What It Means

The port now operates on a private, secure, ultra-reliable wireless network that eliminates the cost and disruption of fibre builds. Using unlicensed spectrum avoids recurring carrier fees while still delivering industrial-grade performance. And with GenCare managed services in place, Genwave handles monitoring, maintenance, and lifecycle support. The port stays focused on moving cargo, while we take care of keeping the network running flawlessly.
