“The hardest environment in wireless. That’s the point. That’s why Genwave“
The Genwave team was very excited to take part in Mining Transformed 2026, the invitation-only technology exhibition held inside NORCAT’s operating mine near Sudbury, Ontario. It is the only show of its kind in the world, set in a real, active underground mine. For a wireless company, that is as good as it gets.
Most trade shows happen on a carpeted floor under perfect coverage. Mining doesn’t work that way. It is rock, heavy equipment, and long drifts where ordinary signals give up. When an operator asks whether the technology can really perform down there, there is no better place to have that conversation than underground, in the environment that puts it to the test. Transforming mining through mission-critical wireless solutions by Genwave.
The focus was simple: show how Genwave helps enhance mining operations with ultra-reliable, mission-critical wireless. A real conversation about what is possible when the network is designed by engineers and built for the place it actually has to thrive.
Proud to have Cisco with us
Genwave was proud to have Cisco co-presenting right alongside the team at the booth. As one of Cisco’s premier Operational Technology partners in North America, Genwave brought professional RF (Radio Frequency) engineering and design-build experience together with Cisco’s industrial wireless platform, and there is no better audience to share that with than the operators transforming their mines with new wireless applications.

The booth highlighted Cisco Ultra-Reliable Wireless Backhaul (CURWB), the low-latency, high-availability link that keeps autonomous and remote-operated equipment, sensors, and video connected without dropouts. The conversations also covered how CURWB and Private 5G come together for operators modernizing communications, automation, and safety.
Why NORCAT, and why now
Mining Transformed is invitation-only and curated by design, hosted by NORCAT with the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM). Real conversations, with real decision-makers, in the environment that matters. Sudbury sits at the heart of one of the most important mining regions on earth, and Canadian operators are moving fast on automation, electrification, and the connectivity solutions required.
Underground wireless is no longer an experiment. Dependable connectivity is the foundation, and the Genwave team was glad to make that case with Cisco. Design, build, and support, in some of the toughest conditions that exist.
If your mining operation depends on connectivity that simply has to work, every shift, in conditions that punish anything less, let’s discuss your roadmap and plans.
